Online appointment request FAQs

Why am I being asked to submit an online request?

We are now asking for all GP appointment requests to be submitted online via accuRx, rather than making the request over the phone. All requests, whether submitted online or over the phone, will be reviewed by our triage team before you are contacted to arrange an appointment or other next steps.

Why can’t a book an appointment over the phone?

Over the last few months we have been implementing a new appointment system known as Total Triage, which has helped us to improve appointment availability, and ensure that all patients get appropriate and timely care. For more information about our Total Triage system, please see this news item.

I’ve waited 10 minutes in the phone queue, why am I still being asked to submit an online request?

We are aware that this recent change is frustrating, but we would really like to encourage those who can, to submit their requests online. By doing so you can avoid waiting in the phone queue at all, and you will receive the same standard of care however you requested your appointment.

I don’t have a smartphone/access to the internet, what about me?

The changes we have made recently are designed to improve access for all, including those who do not have access to the internet. Freeing up our phone lines by redirecting most patients online allows us to answer calls from patients who might be digitally excluded more promptly, and we can often then dedicate more time to dealing with their calls.

For those unable or unwilling to complete an online request, requests can be made over the phone. We will be completing the request form on your behalf, so you may be asked a few more questions than usual. Providing this extra detail really helps our triaging clinician to ensure patients receive appropriate and safe care, so we thank you for your patience with this.
